  1. Hello to everyone!

Tony, so sad to hear the passing of our dear Matron. What an amazing age Mrs Furness was!!

I have great respect and fond memories of her from my time at Birkdale 1962 to 1971. She was a very caring, funny lovely Lady and possessed a quality that was needed at a mixed boarding School the size of Birkdale.

The day I was leaving in May 1971 I recall her saying to my Parents I shall miss Stephen but not his feet, that`s because I used to suffer a lot with athlete foot and verrucas too!! Mrs McKenzie and Matron used to take it in turns to treat my feet with some frustrations trying to clear them up! They cleared up themselves a year or two after leaving!!

    May she rest in Peace
